Music Director

Mr. Tan Aik Koon

Mr. Tan began his musical education first as a pianist when he was in primary school. When he joined his secondary school’s band, he picked up the trumpet under the guidance of members from the British Royal Marine Band. The young and enthusiastic trumpeter never looked back since then.

For the past 30 years, Mr. Tan has performed extensively as a Principal or Lead Trumpeter in various wind bands, symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles and studio recordings. In 2000, he decided to venture into full-time band directing and conducting. With his vast and diverse experience and knowledge, Mr. Tan has gained much recognition in the music education scene, both locally as well as overseas.

Mr. Tan is currently a Committee Member of the Singapore Wind Symphony as well as an Executive Council Member of the Band Director’s Association of Singapore (BDAS).  In addition, Mr. Tan also serves as the First Principal Trumpeter of the Singapore Wind Symphony and Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra.

Other than being the Music Director of the Singapore Wind Symphony Youth Winds (SWS Youth Winds), Mr. Tan is also the Resident Conductor of the bands of Mayflower Secondary School and Huayi Secondary School.
